Boldt Castle

Boldt Castle

Boldt Castle is located in the 1000 Islands, New York. We visited this castle in the first week in October 2016 when the leaves were just starting to change in this area. We always try to time our trips to upstate NY when the leaves are at their peak in the Adirondacks, so I’m sure if we visited the castle a little later in October the leaves would have been a lot more vibrant that season. A little background on the castle: George Boldt started building this beautiful castle for his wife Louise in 1900, but when she died in 1904 he stopped all construction and never went back. In 1977 it was restored and you can now visit it via ferry between May and October. We used Uncle Sam Boat Tours to ferry to the Island (around $24 per person) and then you pay an additional $10 to get onto the castle grounds. If you get there early enough, you can see both the Boldt Castle AND Singer castle which looked really cool. Unfortunately we didn’t get there until later in the day and just did Boldt Castle. Singer is still on our bucket list.
We really enjoyed exploring the castle, it was a nice stop on our road trip, I don’t know if I would have made the drive to JUST see the castle, but 1000 islands was pretty dreamy and I wouldn’t mind going back to explore the area.
